Worth The Wait

Have you ever had an artistic vision that you held onto for an almost ridiculous amount of time because you needed every aspect of it to be perfect before you felt ready to execute it? That’s exactly why I held onto the white prairie wedding dress I had thrifted almost 7 years ago! At the time I would stare star struck at the images of this one particular romance/fantasy photographer and when I found the dress I knew that that was exactly how I wanted to shoot it. I tried many times to get in front of her lens but despite both of our interest our time lines never quite matched up and she eventually moved off the continent so I packed it in the back of my closet and ever so often i would longingly think about the day I would be able to create just the right situation for it. That day came this last November when I had the fortunate opportunity to step in front of Deyona of Cnidarium Photography’s camera for the second time.

The first time that Deyona and I shot back in 2014 she completely took me by shock with her skill. We had glossed over the feeling we were looking to capture but she gave me the reins and let me create the looks I was interested in having photographed. She then took my seemingly dull backyard, almost no gear, and a horribly positioned sun and created nothing short of magic. I had to work with her again! Much like me though, Deyona’s time is exceptionally precious as she not only captures stunning photos but she is the sole owner and creator of Apothecary Noir, a line of scrumptious bath and body items that will blow your mind. Getting this girl free for more than a second is sometimes completely impossible. I have a feeling she might be using Hermoine’s time turner to accomplish all that she does.

Luckily for me she managed to create a bit of space in her schedule to shoot with me right before I packed up and hopped into my adventure! I knew exactly what i wanted to shoot. It was time to dust off that pretty little dress because the perfect storm had finally awakened. Once again she gave me the opportunity to create the entire look and I was able to really get into the romantic feeling I was desiring with the hair and makeup. It was the first time I had done over the top styling with my dreads and I absolutely loved it! I also find that I fall back on my simple black winged liner and nude lip quite a bit so I broke the mold, went bold, and fell in love with a whole new look.

With the mood set we took off for the bosque as Deyona had shot there before and when I tell you that the location didn’t disappoint you should know that that is understatement. We arrived and navigated through the boring, more commonly shot areas and entered a wonderland of soft sand, hues of grey, eerie trees, and whimsical brush all about. It was perfect. Skillfully she moved between our settings after only a few shots in each, masterfully capturing the perfect shot in each in no time. The sun hadn’t even begun to hang low when we wrapped and headed home.

I knew by looking at the ack of the camera that I would want to use some of these images for my branding. They were exactly the sort of thing I wanted to produce. I didn’t realize, though, how hard it would be to pick from them but when I received the final images I knew I was going to have trouble. They were absolutely gorgeous. I should’t be shocked. The idea was solid and the skill was unmatched but there’s something heartwarming about seeing yourself in the perfect fantasy photos. I felt truly beautiful. While I understand Deyona’s incredible busy life (maybe more so than I admit!!) I have to say that it would be my loss if I were to wait that long again to work with her.
